BBQ Charcoal Grills vs. Gas Grills
This article will debate the aspects that can help one choose from BBQ charcoal grills or gas ones. The factors taken into consideration when approaching this subjects are convenience, authenticity, taste, space, time and cost. These two types, BBQ charcoal grills and gas grills respectively, are included in a larger line of grills which also encompasses electric and pellet grills.
Depending on the factors enumerated above, one can choose what type of grill to use when going for a barbeque.
As for the factor of convenience is concerned, the more comfortable a grill is, the less smoke flavor one is going to get. While the gas grills are easier to use than the BBQ charcoal grills, the latter type can provide a more subtle taste.
This leads us to the next aspect, that of authenticity. Grilled foods gain an authentic smoky, off the fire taste when cooked with the traditional heat source, namely wood. Hence, as you progress to BBQ charcoal grills and gas ones, implicitly, this authentic flavor is lost. The advantage that the two types of grills have over the hardwood fire is that they are much simpler.
In the barbeque charcoal grills vs gas grills competition, the parameter of taste played an important role. A study was done to establish a difference between the two. The food products grilled were represented by hamburgers and steak. There couldn't be named a taste difference between charcoal and gas grilled hamburgers, but the steak definitely tasted better when prepared on barbeque charcoal grills.
The next criterion in the present debate is given by space. BBQ charcoal grills are usually larger than gas ones, taking more space when being used. However, although both produce flare-ups, the former type can be lit with an electric starter and, consequently, used without open flame.
When the condition of time is taken into discussion, the gas grills definitely have an advantage over the barbeque charcoal grills, since they require little time to prepare some steak or chicken breast when coming from work.
As for the cost, the gas grills are more expensive than the ones using charcoal. If you are to choose between the two only from the perspective of price, then BBQ charcoal grills come first. Nevertheless, don't you forget that charcoal is getting more expensive. In the long run, this won't save you money, because the gas costs around $2 USD per cookout, whereas the charcoal requires at least $5 USD a cookout.
